Project B2 • Sequence-Controlled Growth of Cross-Linked Polymer Layers on Surfaces

In this project methods for the iterative functionalization of surfaces, with a particular focus on graphite, will be developed, to enable the growth of a sequence of functional and defined covalently bonded layers orthogonal to the substrate. Hence, the project seizes the idea of a monomer based sequence controlled growth along the chain and transfers it into the second dimension. Therefore, specially synthesized poly-ene and poly-yne monomers will be linked iteratively to polythiols in thiol-ene and thiol-yne reactions to control parameters such as polarity, mesh size of the network or the attachment of functional groups.
